A scooter which is made for India but has some small issues, and here’s what they are…
Having the TVS Jupiter 110 in my garage has been life-changing, quite literally. I have experienced a paradigm shift in my daily commutes, and I’m almost convinced that the Jupiter 110 is the adventure bike of scooters. The Jupiter 110 is the best 110cc petrol-powered scooter you can buy in India, right? Well, here’s what I like and dislike about the scooter after riding it daily for over a month.
Things I Dislike

A Not So Smooth Operator
TVS has done a fantastic job with the second-generation Jupiter 110. It has more grunt than before and has a peppy little engine, but that comes at a cost. The scooter wakes up, quite literally, post 60kmph till its redline. The first thing I noticed was that the floorboard had some vibes post 60kmph in a way that you don’t even need to see the speedometer to know that you have crossed the 60kmph mark. While the vibrations are not something which would hamper your riding experience, it’s just something I had to make my peace with and served as a reminder that I was pushing the scooter.

The Little Things
The switchgear quality on the Jupiter 110 could have been better. For instance, the turn indicator switch does not provide tactile feedback, and I had to glance at the console while riding to make sure whether I was indicating where I was going. While this is not a dealbreaker, as the scooter does make a beeping sound when you press the indicator, on highways where I was not able to hear the sound due to the wind rushing into my helmet, it did pose a small issue.

A Not So Useful Feature
The one thing which put me in a bit of trouble, quite a few times, was the auto-engine stop/start feature. Sure, it is a useful feature to save fuel when stopping at a red light. But in stop-go traffic, the scooter will shut itself off after 7-8 seconds. This feature put me in a pickle as to switch on the scooter, one has to blip the throttle while pressing the brake. But when I had a long queue behind me and the scooter refused to turn on, it got a bit tricky, and the simple conclusion I came to was to switch off the feature completely.

Got My Back
TVS really has done some kind of magic when they were tuning the Jupiter’s suspension setup. The scooter absorbs all undulations without even breaking a sweat. My daily commute has a really bad patch of road which might even pose a challenge for some motorcycles, but the Jupiter just glides over potholes, bumps and rocks like it’s nothing.

Ohh So Practical
Be it the large floorboard or the enormous underseat storage space, the Jupiter left me with no excuse to not bring all the groceries which my mom told me to get. While this made the Jupiter a favourite to run all the household errands, it meant I had to go get all the stuff each and every time.

My Wallet Thanks Me
My daily ride before the Jupiter 110 was the Aprilia SR150, a fun and agile scooter, but an unforgiving gas-guzzler. The Jupiter, in this regard, has saved me a lot of money with its excellent fuel economy. I also did a tank-to-tank test on my daily route, and the Jupiter returned a mileage of 51.36kmpl!
Verdict
So, is the Jupiter 110 the best family-oriented scooter you can buy in India? Yes, there’s no two ways about it. Sure, it does have some negatives, such as a vibey motor at higher speeds, switchgear quality that needs to be better and a stop/start system that feels unintuitive to use at times. But the positives of the scooter outweigh the negatives and make it a scooter which you should definitely consider if you are in the market for one.
