In case you didn’t know, California is facing one of the worst natural disasters the state has seen, with multiple major wildfires raging across Los Angeles. While the brave firefighters are doing their duty, some video game companies are now stepping up to help as well.
One of these is Square Enix, who has donated an undisclosed sum to the American Red Cross.
Aside from the donation to the Red Cross, Square Enix is also organizing a company-wide fundraiser with a “matching gift program” that will benefit a variety of local relief organizations in the region.
The company adds they hope those impacted will find relief and they can return to their peaceful lives as soon as possible.
It’s been a very challenging start of the year for California residents, as at least 27 people have died in the wildfires that are still ongoing now. While thousands of firefighters are battling wildfires across 45 square miles of Los Angeles County, their work is made harder by the severe drought conditions and strong winds.
To date, about 82,000 people are under mandatory evacuation orders, with another 90,000 under evacuation warnings.
When it comes to games, Square Enix’s upcoming big game is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC, releasing on January 23. If you’re thinking of getting it or double-dipping for those who already have the PS5 version, you can check out sonme of the PC features right here.
In the future, don’t expect the third chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy to be exclusive to the PS5 once again. based on what Square Enix president Takashi Kiryu’s latest statement.
We here at DualShockers hope other gaming companies follow suit and wish everyone affected by this tragedy all the best.
