Veteran journalist and former Rajya Sabha MP Kumar Ketkar has been named the recipient of the Anant Dixit Memorial Award, while acclaimed cartoonist Alok Nirantar will be honoured with the Mohan Maskar Award instituted by Anant Dixit Memorial Committee. The awards carry a cash prize of ₹51,000 and ₹21,000, respectively, along with a commemorative memento.
Instituted by colleagues and admirers of the late Anant Dixit, a revered Marathi editor known for his socially conscious and incisive writing, the awards celebrate outstanding contributions to journalism. The Mohan Maskar Award, meanwhile, honours the memory of a promising young journalist whose work in rural reporting won admiration across Maharashtra. Maskar’s untimely demise left a significant void in the field, and this award seeks to inspire and acknowledge emerging journalistic talent.
Alok Nirantar
Kumar Ketkar, with over five decades of journalistic excellence, has shaped the discourse of Maharashtra’s newspaper landscape with his editorial leadership. Alok Nirantar is celebrated for his bold visual commentary and distinctive style.
“The awards will be conferred at a grand felicitation ceremony that will be held in Kolhapur soon. Dixit’s legacy lives on through this annual tribute, recognizing a senior journalist and emerging talent each year,” said Dr. Vijay Chormare, convener of the Anant Dixit Memorial Committee.
