The Master Chief and his squad have returned to Halo Infinite in Operation: Blue Team, along with a Firefight Classic playlist inspired by the fan-favorite survival mode from Halo 3: ODST. Halo Infinite’s latest update also added several faithful recreations of classic Firefight maps from both ODST and Halo: Reach.
While John-117 became the poster boy for the UNSC and figurehead for the entire Xbox franchise, the Master Chief would not be the same without the support of his squad. Launched on March 11, Halo Infinite’s new Operation: Blue Team update marks the Spartan squad’s first in-game appearance since 2015’s Halo 5: Guardians. While the other members may lack John’s natural luck and leadership abilities, Linda-058, Kelly-087, and Fred-104 are known for being the most accurate and fastest Spartan-II’s in the Halo universe. Halo Infinite players can unlock Kelly-087’s HERMES-class Mjolnir armor in the Operation’s free 20-tier battle pass, while the rest of Blue Team’s signature war gear is available in the Store.
Even more exciting for long-standing Halo fans is the introduction of Firefight Classic. This new PVE mode recreates the original Firefight experience first seen in 2009’s Halo 3: ODST, pitting teams of four against endless waves of increasingly difficult foes. Five waves of enemies make up each round, while three rounds comprise a full set. In a feature unique to Halo Infinite, teams now have the option to end the game with dignity by heading to an exfiltration site after each set or choose to battle on until they are finally overwhelmed by The Banished. Three iconic Firefight maps have been lovingly created to celebrate the new mode. Players will defend ONI’s New Mombasa headquarters in Alpha Site and Security Zone from Halo 3: ODST and return to SWORD Base’s Courtyard from Halo: Reach.

Operation: Blue Team has also brought new goodies for PVP players. Hot Swap, a 4v4 matchmaking mode first seen in Halo 4, tests players’ mastery of Halo Infinite’s entire sandbox. All players start with identical loadouts, which rotate every 30 seconds. In contrast to Escalation Slayer, all players always have the same weapons and abilities, ensuring balanced but continually dynamic gameplay. Gamers also have a new playground to explore in a new Forerunner-themed map, entitled Nemesis.
Halo Infinite’s Store and Exchange have also been refreshed with new bundles, while matchmaking playlists have been reorganized to reduce game search times. Operation: Blue Team will run from March 11 to April 8, and Halo Studios has also promised a further patch to fix server stability issues on Xbox and PC, scheduled for March 12. This new update comes shortly after Halo Studios announced an upcoming Halo Infinite Extraction mode, along with a Forgehub Map Contest boasting a $20,000 prize pool.
