If you already have the Platinum Trophy on the PlayStation 4 version of Days Gone and were planning on paying the $10 upgrade to get Days Gone Remastered on the PlayStation 5, then congratulations, you’ve earned another Platinum Trophy.
That’s because, as shared on Twitter by Bend Studio, if you import your PS4 save to the PS5, it’ll auto-pop the Platinum, giving you one more marquee PlayStation Trophy for your collection.
It wouldn’t be the first time that a game allows players to snag two Platinum Trophies at once. In fact, there’s an entire website dedicated to tracking games that do let you double-dip. Days Gone won’t be the first PlayStation game to do it, as Spider-Man Remastered also features an auto-pop.
Still, for avid Trophy hunters, it brings up a discussion about whether the Platinum is a valid Trophy.
Not All Platinum Trophies Are Created Equal
Over on the Trophies subreddit, where the news of Days Gone’s auto-pop Platinum was first shared, PlayStation gamers began discussing the criteria for a “valid” Platinum.
“Y’all do you, no judgment,” one commenter wrote. “It’s just funny that it’s basically buying a plat for $10 at that point.”
“I’d rather re-earn the plat than have it handed to me,” another user wrote, firmly on the side of having to earn your PlayStation Trophies.
Still, it’s not like every user was firmly on the side of having to replay the game. One user wrote how one player’s choice to auto-pop doesn’t impact other players. “They would’ve had to have platinumed it at least once beforehand anyway,” they wrote in response. “Each to their own opinion, but once you start hating on others for doing it differently than you that’s just lame.”
Regardless of where you fall in the discussion, it’s an interesting one nonetheless. If you have already earned the Platinum, then is there really any harm? And considering the amount of shovelware and “easy” titles, is it all that bad? We have no horses in the race, but if you’re having fun, that’s all that matters.
