Virat Kohli’s animated reaction was once again on display on Monday when a miscommunication between Jitesh Sharma and Yash Dayal gave Suryakumar Yadav a life during Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clash in the ongoing IPL 2025.
The incident took place on the second ball of the 12th over. Suryakumar Yadav went for a heave against Yash Dayal’s back of the hand slower delivery but got a huge top edge. While wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma came down running with his eye on the ball, Yash Dayal too did the same to get underneath.
The RCB pacer got both his hands on the ball when Jitesh Sharma banged in, with the white cherry popping out of the Yash Dayal’s hand. In the process, Yash Dayal’s hands made contact with Jitesh Sharma’s face, forcing the medical team to run on to the pitch. Suryakumar Yadav was on batting on 27 at that stage.
The miscommunication didn’t go well with Virat Kohli as the former RCB skipper banged his cap on to the ground in disappointment, the video of which went viral on social media. But Yash Dayal didn’t had to wait for long as Suryakumar Yadav holed out to Liam Livingstone in the final ball of the over.
RCB break Wankhede jinx after a decade
RCB held their nerves to beat Mumbai Indians by 12 run for their first victory at the Wankhede Stadium in 10 years. Batting first, brisk half-centuries by skipper Rajat Patidar and Virat Kohli powered RCB to 221/5.
In reply, Mumbai Indians were stopped at 209/9 after Tilak Varma (56 off 29 balls) and captain Hardik Pandya (42 off 15) threatened to take the game away from RCB with an 89-run stand for the fifth quick.
However, Krunal Pandya (4/45) took three wickets in the final over to seal the issue in RCB’s favour. Earlier, Patidar led from the front with 64 off 32 balls after Kohli helped himself to a 42-ball 67. Coming in to bat in the 15th over, Jitesh Sharma smashed 40 off 19 balls to help RCB end on a blazing note.
