Yamaha Motor India has reached an important milestone. It manufactured the one-millionth unit of its flagship YZF-R15 motorcycle. It happened within the company’s Surajpur plant at Greater Noida. Riding high since its release in 2008, it’s been an Indian rider’s favourite ever since. Know more about it.
A Journey Through R15 Generations
The first R15 was presented in 2008. It still held an engine with liquid cooling and the then-famous ‘Deltabox’ frame. The second-generation model came in 2011 with an aluminium swingarm, which further enhanced its performance.
It finally introduced the third variant in the year 2018. It came equipped with LED lighting, a slip-and-assist clutch, and an updated 155 cc engine. The fourth generation R15 was unveiled in 2021 and is sold in India today. This bike is supported with a TFT display and Bluetooth connectivity along with traction control. Fit and finish are great in this one, too.
Current R15 Lineup and Pricing
Yamaha offers the R15 in three variants:
- R15 S: Priced at Rs 1.65 Lakh.
- R15 V4: Available for Rs 1.82 – 2.25 Lakh.
- R15 M: The premium variant is between Rs. 1.96 – 1.97 Lakh.
All prices are ex-showroom. The R15 M features a colour scheme reminiscent of the Yamaha R1M superbike.
R15’s Market Performance and Competition
The R15 is still one of the best in Yamaha’s portfolio, with more than 9 lakh units sold in India. Its performance and features make it a strong competitor against the KTM RC 200. Quality and innovation from Yamaha have ensured that the R15 remains at the top of the Indian sportbike market.
This production landmark represents Yamaha’s commitment towards high-quality motorcycles for the Indian market. The improved version of R15 is the sound representation of Yamaha’s need for performance, design, and, thus, satisfaction in its riders.
