XenTegra On Moving VMware-Broadcom Customers To Nutanix TechTricks365

‘We can move them to Nutanix now on VMware. Then as we get closer to that renewal, we shift them over to [Nutanix] AHV. And with Nutanix’s Move tool, it makes it very easy,’ says XenTegra’s CRO Les Roach.

XenTegra executive Les Roach says the solution provider standout is having conversations “every day” as customers seek to move off VMware-Broadcom with Nutanix being the “off-ramp” needed when their VMware renewal is up.

“Customers that are coming up on their Broadcom renewal, they finally get a quote from Broadcom, and they have sticker shock. A lot of times we get those phone calls saying, ‘I’ve got to move away from Broadcom. What can I do?’” said Roach, XenTegra’s global sales leader and chief revenue officer.

“We educate them on that marketplace, and that usually leads to a Nutanix discussion and how Nutanix can be an easy off-ramp for that VMware, Broadcom renewal,” he said.

Roach said “plenty of customers” have moved off VMware-Broadcom to Nutanix due to several benefits including cost savings and migration ease via Nutanix’s Move product. Nutanix’s Move product was tailor-made to quickly and easily transfer virtual machines (VMs) from VMware ESXi hypervisor to Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV).

“The great thing about Nutanix is if you’re already invested in VMware, you can run VMware on Nutanix,” said Roach (pictured above). If the customers’ VMware renewal is not up for another year, XenTegra takes a multi-phased approach.

“We can move them to Nutanix now on VMware. Then as we get closer to that renewal, we shift them over to AHV,” he said. “And with Nutanix’s Move tool, it makes it very easy.”

Broadcom declined to comment for this story.

Nutanix Move Also Opens DRaaS Opportunities

The Huntersville, N.C.-based IT services and end user computing (EUC) specialist also leverages Nutanix Move to help migrate customers to XenTegra’s own Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS).

“[Nutanix] Move is special. It makes migrations super easy,” said Trevor Mansell, managing partner at XenTegra and vice president of managed services. “We use it in our hosting business to migrate people into our own DRaaS.”

With Nutanix ending the life of its Xi Leap disaster recovery solution this year, XenTegra worked together with Nutanix to create its own DRaaS product. One of the hottest services right now for XenTegra is its DRaaS solution.

“Ours is cloud native so you don’t need to go buy a third-party product and do the replication. Cost-wise, there’s a lot of benefits from a license perspective,” said Mansell. “Our pipeline has just gone through the roof since January.”

With advanced failover orchestration, non-disruptive testing, and end-to-end management, XenTegra’s DRaaS offering ensures applications and data remain secure, accessible, and fully recoverable during any disruption.

“The challenge you have with the migration is not actually moving that workload—that’s very simple, customers are surprised how fast that is—but it’s the, ‘Hey, how many advanced features of VMware do they have? What do they use in the vSphere? What other integrations with VMware were they using? And how does that backup look and everything else?’” said Mansell.

“For smaller customers, it’s really not a big deal. With big enterprises, yeah, there are things that definitely may extend that migration or make it a little bit difficult, but in general, is not a huge uplift,” Mansell said.

Another Nutanix strategy that is helping customers make the move from VMware to Nutanix is the hyperconverged superstar’s plan to form big technology partnerships with hardware leaders.

At Nutanix Next 2025 conference last week, Nutanix unveiled new interoperability and integrated solutions with Pure Storage, Nvidia, Cisco and Dell Technologies, to name a few.

Three big examples include: Nutanix’s AHV virtualization platform now together with Pure Storage’s FlashArray storage system; Nutanix’s new joint FlashStack end-to-end solution with Pure and Cisco; and the company’s new partnership with VMware spin-off company Omnissa that enables VMware-Broadcom customers to now easily move from VMware’s ESX hypervisor for Nutanix’s AHV hypervisor.

“In the data center space, you’ve got so many customers that are so heavily invested in the Dell platform or the Pure platform. Now they don’t have to make a choice of that or Nutanix,” said Roach. “They can get the best of both worlds, especially for those looking to move away from Broadcom.”

XenTegra is a global IT solutions advisor and reseller with a focus on digital workspace technologies and cloud computing. The company made CRN’s Pioneer 250 list in 2025 due to XenTegra’s services capabilities.
