On the latest episode of the HomeKit Insider Podcast, we wrap up WWDC 2025 by recapping all the new smart home features announced, and then go hands-on with the Govee lamp post light.
Even though homeOS was not announced at WWDC, there were still several smart home-related announcements to come out of all Apple’s new operating systems. After a week of digging, we’ve rounded up all the ones we’ve found thus far.
We start with iOS 26 which has big updates with CarPlay that finally allows widgets, including those to view and control smart home accessories. Outside of CarPlay, the Home app gets updated too.
Finally with iOS 26, there is a new EnergyKit framework, on-device LLM access, and more. It’s not the higher resolution cameras or other items we had on our wish list, but it’s something.
Then we move to both tvOS and visionOS that had their own respective updates. The Apple TV has a bunch of new features like passthrough audio and karaoke mode while Vision Pro got widgets.
After all of the WWDC news, your host goes into the news. It was a light week with the China G100 from Aqara being the only big release.
Then we wrap the episode with a hands-on review of the Govee lamp post light. This large outdoor light is full color, supports Matter over Wi-Fi, and has various on-board sensors.
