Wizards of the Coast has announced a Secret Lair x Final Fantasy drop for Magic: The Gathering this summer. This drop of cards coincides with their upcoming Universes Beyond crossover set with the acclaimed RPG series, highlighting even more iconic characters and feats in the beloved card game.
The Secret Lair x Final Fantasy Announcement
In an official blog post, Wizards of the Coast announced three drops as part of Secret Lair x Final Fantasy. Each drop will contain five cards based around different themes. In addition, anyone who orders one of these drops will receive a Gilded Lotus promo card. The card features artwork and flavor text from the environmentally-minded Final Fantasy VII.
The first of these drops is called Secret Lair x Final Fantasy: Game Over. The drop features cards based on major world-ending events or calamitous attacks wielded by Final Fantasy villains. These include the ruin of Spira by Sin from Final Fantasy X and the dreaded meteor crash by Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII. The cards in the drop are as follows:
- Day of Judgment as “Spira’s Punishment“
- Temporal Extortion as “Absorb Into Time“
- Toxic Deluge as “Merciless Poisoning“
- Praetor’s Grasp as “Unseat the Usurper“
- Star of Extinction as “Meteorfall“
The second drop, Secret Lair x Final Fantasy: Grimoire, showcases impressive feats of magic. This includes iconic spells such as Aerith’s healing or Vivi’s devastating lightning magic. The drop also showcases Final Fantasy XIII’s Hope wielding aero magic, and Final Fantasy XV’s Noctis unleashing his own deadly power. The cards contained in the drop are as follows:
- Prismatic Ending as “Yuna’s Holy Magic“
- Cyclonic Rift as “Hope’s Aero Magic“
- Damn as “Noctis’ Death Magic“
- Lightning Bolt as “Vivi’s Thunder Magic“
- Heroic Intervention as “Aerith’s Curaga Magic“
The third and final drop is Secret Lair x Final Fantasy: Weapons. This drop features a bunch of artifact cards based on iconic Final Fantasy weapons such as Cloud’s buster sword and Yuna’s magic staff. The cards in the drop are as follows:
- Staff of the Storyteller as “Yuna’s Sending Staff“
- Blade of Selves as “Clive’s Invictus Blade“
- Umezawa’s Jitte as “Cloud’s Buster Sword“
- Colossus Hammer as “Gaia’s Dark Hammer“
- Sword of Truth and Justice as “Tidus’ Brotherhood Sword“
Each drop in Secret Lair x Final Fantasy will be available for purchase on June 9. They will be available in both English and Japanese in non-foil (MSRP $29.99) and rainbow foil (MSRP $39.99). In addition, you can order a bundle containing all drops in botn non-foil and rainbow foil at an MSRP of $199.99.
