Violent wet weather for Central India, South Peninsula as heat wave returns to Gujarat, Rajasthan TechTricks365

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall over parts of meteorological subdivisions of Kerala, Mahe, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal and north interior Karnataka and coastal Andhra Pradesh over next few days as pre-monsoon weather intensifies to set up violent weather.

Hot over North-West

This phase will also see gradual rise in day temperatures by 3-5°C likely over North-West India during next seven days and a fall by 2-4°C over Central India, and over Maharashtra for three days before reversing trend in subsequent four days. Day temperatures may moderate by 2-4°C over South Peninsula, while rest of the country may not see wild swings in day temperatures.

Heat wave conditions may prevail over parts of Saurashtra and Kutch on Tuesday and Wednesday and west Rajasthan for three days from Saturday. It will be hot and humid over parts of Tripura for three days until Thursday; over Assam for three days from Thursday; and Gujarat, for five days until Monday. This is despite a western disturbance passing over the region briefly.

Heavy rain forecast

Kerala and Mahe will receive heavy rain for five days from Wednesday; Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal for three days from Thursday; and coastal Karnataka for four days from Thursday. Andaman and Nicobar Islands and coastal Andhra Pradesh will be impacted on Friday. Presiding over the rollout of emerging wet weather is a combination of a cyclonic circulation over Madhya Maharashtra and a trough that runs down to it from all the way down south Chhattisgarh. Another trough originates from here and meanders down to the Comorin area., completing a complex structure of weather systems over land.

Moisture from sea

The cyclonic circulation whips up moist winds from Arabian Sea and empties moisture into the trough. The lower pressure and ascending motion of air pumps up it higher into the atmosphere where it condenses to form clouds and is forced to precipitate as thunderstorms and rain along with high winds, lightning and even hailstorms, as forecast by IMD..

Lightning, high winds

Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds (30-60 km/hr) in Gujarat and Telangana on Tuesday will continue into Wednesday. A similar weather is predicted to persist for next four days over Odisha, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada; for five days Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe and Karnataka; and for four days from Wednesday over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema for four days.

Hailstorms warning

The IMD has also warned of hailstorms over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada on Tuesday and Wednesday; over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, south interior Karnataka and Telangana on Wednesday and Thursday; over north interior Karnataka for four days from Wednesday; Jharkhand on Thursday; and coastal Karnataka on both Thursday and Friday.
