Dragon Age: The Veilguard concept art has revealed a bunch of ideas that never made it into the final game. From the Hero of Ferelden turning up as a blight-ridden ghoul to a much more antagonistic Solas, BioWare played around with a variety of plot points that were dropped or altered during development.
Now, we’re getting a look at a completely new area. Courtesy of artist Matt Rhodes, we now know that there were plans for players to explore another part of Tevinter, rather than just smaller parts of Minrathous.
Veilguard
360 City of Ventus
We pictured it as the vacation destination for Tevinter, when the oppression of the big city becomes overwhelming. You’d find it under Qunari occupation. pic.twitter.com/9lpkGUoqZp— Matt Rhodes (@mattrhodesart) April 25, 2025
This unused area is referred to as the City of Ventus. It had been mentioned in all of the previous games, so we already know that it’s a location in the Tevinter Imperium. It had previously been referred to as Qarinus, as this was the Qunari name for the city.
It’s therefore no surprise that this would have been the setting for conflict between Tevinter and the Qunari. According to Rhodes, the Qunari would have retaken the city by the time of The Veilguard, with the city under occupation.
This concept art gives us a 360-degree glimpse at what the area could have looked like. We can make out what appears to be a Qunari dreadnought in the ocean, but otherwise, it certainly looks like a seaside resort for Tevinter residents.
Most importantly, this shows that BioWare considered letting us see more of Tevinter in The Veilguard. We did spend a lot of time there at least, but this was mostly restricted to Dock Town, a district in Minrathous.
