We find out how the newest entrant into the sporty electric scooter segment fares against the most established player
The Ultraviolette Tesseract is the latest addition to the sporty electric scooter space. It directly takes on the Ather 450X, which has been one of the best in the segment with a proven track record. While both are performance oriented and offer a lot of features – they cater to different preferences. Here’s how they compare on paper:
Price
The Ultraviolette Tesseract is priced at Rs 1,45,000 (ex-showroom), with an introductory price of Rs 1,20,000 for the first 20,000 customers. The price will be Rs 1,30,000 for the next 50,000 buyers. While the Ather 450X starts at Rs 1,46,999 for the 2.9kWh battery variant and goes up to Rs 1,56,999 for the 3.7kWh battery variant.
Design
The Tesseract has a maxi-scooter like, futuristic design with sharp body lines, and a bulky body. It looks aggressive and is more likely to turn heads. It is available in four colours: Solar White, Stealth Black, Sonic Pink, and Desert Sand.
On the other hand, the 450X is sleeker and more minimalist in design. Its aerodynamic look is both modern and mature, making it stand out in a more subtle way. It comes in seven colour options: Lunar Grey, True Red, Hyper Sand, Cosmic Black, Space Grey, Stealth Blue, and Still White.
Performance
The Ultraviolette has a much more powerful motor compared to the 450X. It produces up to 15kW (20.39PS) in the 5kWh and 6kWh variants, and 10kW (13.59PS) in the 3.5kWh version. The torque output is 20.4Nm across all versions, and it accelerates from 0-60 kmph in just 2.9 seconds. The top speed is 125kmph.
In comparison, the 450X delivers a respectable 6.4kW of peak power and 26Nm of torque, which are more than enough for its segment. The scooter accelerates from 0-40 kmph in 3.3 seconds and has a top speed of 90kmph.
Range And Charging
The Ultraviolette offers a range that surpasses the Ather across all variants. The 3.5kWh version has a claimed range of 162km, the 5kWh variant offers 220km, and the 6kWh version provides a range of 261km. It can be charged from 0-80% in under one hour using a fast charger.
Meanwhile, the Ather offers a range of 126km for the 2.9kWh battery variant and 161km for the 3.7kWh version. It takes about 4 hours 30 minutes for the 2.9kWh battery variant and 5 hours 45 minutes for the 3.7kWh version to charge the scooter from 0-100%.
Features And Safety
The Tesseract comes with features like a 7-inch TFT touchscreen, navigation, wireless smartphone charging, dual LED projector headlamps, floating LED DRLs, front and rear dashcams, dynamic regen, Violette AI, daily ride stats, and a handlebar with haptic feedback. It also gets advanced features like radar-based ADAS, blind spot detection, lane change assist, and collision alerts. Safety features include dual-channel ABS, traction control, dynamic stability control, and crash alerts.
On the other hand, the 450X offers features like a 7-inch TFT display with Google Maps integration, smartphone connectivity for call/SMS alerts, and Auto-Hold. The Pro variant adds features like WhatsApp alerts and Ping My Scooter. It also gets five ride modes: Smart Eco, Eco, Ride, Sport, and Warp mode (available with the Pro Pack). It comes with single-channel ABS and Synchronised Braking Technology (SBT).
Underpinnings
The Ultraviolette Tesseract is equipped with a 34-litre underseat storage and rides on 14-inch alloy wheels with a 110-section front and 140-section rear tyre. It gets a telescopic fork and dual shock absorbers.
The Ather 450X, on the other hand, comes with a 22-litre boot space. It gets 12-inch alloy wheels with 90-section tubeless tyres on both ends, a telescopic fork, and a 5-step adjustable monoshock.
BikeDekho Says
The Ultraviolette Tesseract is perfect for someone who wants more performance, advanced tech, and a futuristic design. It offers superior range, faster charging, and a higher top speed. But all of this is on paper, as the deliveries of the scooters are still a year away. The Ather 450X, however, is a well-tested and proven option. It offers solid performance, smart features and a reliable range output. While it lacks the high-tech features of the Tesseract, it remains a great choice for urban commuting.
