I like Cities Skylines 2. I maintain that its road-building tools and its foundational systems provide, for the most part, the backbone for an extremely promising sequel. But even with all the optimism in the world, after a difficult launch, it now feels like Cities Skylines 2 is starting to drift off the path to redemption. The Bridges and Ports DLC has just been delayed. Colossal Order explains that, after internal testing, while some components of the expansion were ready to go, other new features were not up to standard. A small, free update is still on the way soon, but with rivals like Transport Fever 3 and Anno 117 on the way, it feels like time is ticking down for CS2’s comeback.
This is the second time that Cities Skylines 2’s Bridges and Ports DLC has been delayed – in September 2024, Colossal Order announced that the expansion would miss its original release date, and instead arrive during the second quarter of 2025. However, Bridges and Ports has now been pushed back again. Colossal Order explains that it has decided to hold back the city-building game’s new DLC because it wants to make sure it meets players’ expectations.
“Since the release of the Detailers patch, we’ve spent the last five months working hard on the Bridges and Ports DLC, and towards our upcoming expected release,” the studio says. “After reviewing the content ourselves and sharing it with our early-access group, we’ve received consistent feedback: the bridges are super exciting, and the port works well, but there are aspects of the expansion that are not as polished as they could be.
“That left us with a difficult choice: delay the release once again to add more depth, or release it as-is, knowing players may feel it falls short. We believe the current content is enjoyable, but we’re not blind to what’s missing, and to bring it to the level you deserve, we need more time.”
Though Bridges and Ports is delayed, a free update for Cities Skylines 2 will be released on Wednesday June 11. It includes some of the material that was meant to be included in the DLC itself: two new bridges, three leisure piers, and three quays. The new, provisional release window for the full Bridges and Ports DLC is the fourth quarter of 2025, which means it is now scheduled to arrive between the beginning of October and the end of December.
“We’re assessing feedback from our early-access group and mapping out what we want to improve when the expansion launches,” Colossal Order says. “This is still a beautiful expansion, and we’re excited about what it will add to your city. We just want to ensure it adds enough to meet your deservedly high expectations.”
