April 26 is Alien Day, and to celebrate, FX released a new pair of videos for Alien: Earth that go about teasing what’s in store. (Spoiler: nothing good!) Unlike prior ones, these are a little more explicit about the show’s premise, though they doesn’t contain any actual footage from the series itself—just some good old Alien creepiness and mad science that’d make David proud.
In the first, labeled “Gestation,” we see the scientific birth of…something that’s writhing around in a crate. Whatever it is, a lab terminal in the ship has labeled it a new species whose genetic material comes from an unknown source. Or rather, sources, plural: the second video, “Crate,” features narration explaining Weyland-Yutani sent a ship out to collect “five different life forms from the darkest corners of the universe, each one a unique deadly species.” Series creator Noah Hawley previously indicated we’d be seeing some new Xenomorph variants, and “Crate” offers small glimpses at the parents of those incoming creations.
Alien: Earth takes place in 2120—two years before the original Alien—after a Weyland-Yutani ship has crashed on humanity’s home planet. Unfortunately, a group of soldiers go about investigating and discover some nasty secrets inside. With the planet at stake, the team will have to survive all those life forms and the company’s own agendas. The cast includes Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Babou Ceesay, and Alex Lawther.
Look for Alien: Earth to hatch this summer on FX and FX on Hulu.
