Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran conferred UK Knighthood for ‘services to UK-India business ties’ | Company Business News TechTricks365


Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran was awarded the UK Knighthood ‘Most Excellent Order of the British Empire’. The Indian business leader has been honoured with the award “for services to U.K./ India business relations.”

N Chandrasekaran expressed his gratitude after being felicitated with the award and mentioned Tata Group’s existing initiatives to boost India-UK business ties.

Commenting on the recognition, Chandrasekaran said, “I would like to express how proud we are at the Tata Group to maintain such a strong strategic relationship with the UK across the technology, consumer, hospitality, steel, chemicals, and automotive sectors.”

N Chandrasekaran expressed gratitude for the award.

‘We are proud of our iconic British brands’

While mentioning “iconic British brands” owned by Tata Group like Jaguar Land Rover and Tetley, Chandra said that the group, “employ more than 70,000 people in the UK.”

The Tata Group enjoy fruitful and world-class research and academic partnerships with great institutions in UK which include the University of Oxford, the London School of Economics, the University of Warwick and the University of Swansea, he added.

Sunil Bharti Mittal felicitated with UK Knighthood

Airtel founder Sunil Mittal was honoured with the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) by King Charles III last year. 

Other Indian recipients of the Honorary KBE are Ratan Tata (2009), Ravi Shankar (2001) and Jamshed Irani (1997), conferred by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Former Google CEO, Eric Schmidt was awarded the Honorary KBE in 2024 by His Majesty King Charles III for his services to philanthropy.

British awards 2024

The list of foreign nationals awarded British awards included other eminent personalities from across the world like Sunil Mittal, Founder Bharti Enterprise; Dagmar Dolby, Co-founder Ray and Dagmar Dolby Family Fund; Eric Schmidt,Former CEO and Chairman of Google; Jason Furman, Professor of Economics, Harvard University; Rajinder Dhatt, Founder Member, Undivided Indian Ex-Servicemen’s Association; and more.

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Civil Division) is an award to recognise the contribution in the field of arts, sciences, charitable work, and public service outside of the civil service.

About N Chandrasekaran

Natarajan Chandrasekaran, popularly known as Chandra, is the Chairman of Tata Sons, and he joined the Board of Tata Sons in October 2016. Candrasekaran also chairs the Boards of several group operating companies including Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, Air India, etc.

He took over the reins of Tata sons in 2017. He was the major force behind Tata group’s resurgence from a leadership crisis and a trust deficit after the exit of his predecessor, Cyrus Mistry.

Chandra, first non-Parsi to lead Tata Group, laid emphasis on the strategy of “One Tata” and implemented several measures to simplify themes, scales, and synergy in the group. Under his leadership, Tata Group has entered into the business of semiconductors, electronics, manufacturing, consumer internet platform, mobile technology and battery giga-factories.

In 2023, Chandra was honoured with France’s highest civilian award, “Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur” (Knight of the Legion of Honour) by French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna. The award was felicitated to honour his contribution in the development of commercial links between India and France.
