Tamil Nadu’s Information Technology (IT) services exports from the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Special Economic Zones (ELCOT SEZs) stood at ₹33,268 crore in FY25, a growth of 21 per cent year-on-year.

ELCOT has established 8 SEZs in Chennai and across tier-2 cities with a total extent of 1,185 acres, as per the IT and Digital Services Department policy note for 2025-26. Tamil Nadu, as the third-largest software exporter in the country, is well positioned to capitalise on this momentum, it said.

Speaking at the Assembly, State Minister of Information Technology and Digital Services Palanivel Thiagarajan, said that the State is working on bringing the ‘e-Sevai’ and other citizen services through the WhatsApp mode. “Instead of even going through a website, citizens can message on WhatsApp and access services,” he said.

As per the policy note, as of March 31, 2025, there are 34,843 e-Sevai centres operating across Tamil Nadu. 1,09,66,215 e-Sevai transactions have been undertaken via the portal in FY25.

Further, the policy note highlighted that with an objective to make Tamil Nadu an innovation-led knowledge economy, ELCOT is in the process of revamping and upgrading the Tamil Nadu Information and Communication Technology Policy 2018.

ELCOT has already established 266 PECs (Permanent Enrolment Centres) across the state to provide Aadhar related services. Minister Thiagarajan said that the state plans to add 50 more such centres.
