Space Marine 2 Just Gave Modders the Keys to the Castle TechTricks365

Space Marine 2’s first content roadmap is coming to an end pretty soon. With Siege Mode being recently announced for the game, there should be plenty more for fans to enjoy, and it should be interesting to see where Saber takes the game next. There are plenty more avenues to explore, from new classes, new weapons, and possibly new factions too, and with the first year of content focused more on quality of life improvements than massive content drops, Space Marine 2 could be ripe for some great new stuff in the near future.

But it isn’t just Saber that has been busy making cool things for the game. Space Marine 2’s modding community has been producing incredible additions to the game, from enhanced customization to 12-player Space Marine Operations. Modding has given players unique ways of expressing their love for the 40K universe, and the freedom to pick and choose mods as players see fit is great for the long-term health of the game. But modding in Space Marine 2 hasn’t always been the easiest, with modders having to rely on some pretty rudimentary methods to implement changes, but that could all be about to change.

In a huge win for Space Marine 2 players, Saber Interactive recently announced it was opening up more avenues for modding with a complete toolset. Saber has made good on its promise to support modding, acknowledging the work of modders, adding that no matter how impressive mods seem now, when players get their hands on the tools, they should be able to create things beyond their wildest dreams. This is because the tools Saber is giving modders are its own development tools, the same ones used to make the game, granting a level of access that was previously impossible.

There are some very significant changes coming with these tools. The biggest is that it provides a stable framework for modding. Modders can now also work with level editing and AI scripting, making NPCs who react to world events in the same manner as the campaign. This could lay the groundwork for fan-made campaign missions, which is simply unprecedented. The number of stories that players will be able to tell and the number of new places that players will be able to go thanks to mods should give Space Marine 2 an incredibly long lifetime. There could be incredible Space Marine 2 mods that are almost indistinguishable from campaign missions, giving modders the tools to explore dream scenarios such as the Horus Heresy.

There’s even more too, as VFX editing is made simpler, and UI elements should be entirely customizable. Nothing is off the table, as abilities and melee combos can be tweaked too, allowing modders to better implement more authentic melee weapons. Some modders have already had a go at creating new factions in Space Marine 2, bringing some iconic 40K races to life, but with the new tools, there should be more options to integrate more complex things into the game, maybe even custom animations.

Space Marine 2 Has a Bright Future in the Hands of Modders

The news is huge, and Saber has promised even more mod support will follow in the future. This kind of open support and encouragement of modding is a rare thing to see nowadays, especially among big-budget, multiplayer action games like Space Marine 2, and the game is so much better for it. One day, the developers will have to leave the game behind for a new project, at which point, mods could keep it alive for years. Just look at Skyrim modding – there hasn’t been a new Elder Scrolls game in 14 years, yet Skyrim lives on through its volume of community support. It’s a great time to be a Space Marine 2 player, and it’ll get even better when the new tools bring even better mods to the game.
