Ola Electric has decided to delay the delivery of some of its upcoming models, including the S1 Z, the Gig and Gig plus scooters in the Indian market. Instead of commencing the deliveries of several products at once, the company plans to bring them gradually so that each product gets the attention it deserves, and the anticipated sales figures are achieved. This strategy was revealed at the brand’s Q4 FY25 (January – March 2025) earnings conference call.
In November, 2024, Ola ‘launched’ the Gig electric scooter, designed as an e-scooter for delivery personnel, and available in two versions priced between Rs 39,999 and Rs 49,999. It also announced the S1 Z at Rs 59,999, aimed at city commuters looking for affordable e-scooter options. The deliveries were originally scheduled for April and May this year, but those have now been delayed, and the exact timeline has not been revealed yet.
According to Bhavish Aggarwal, the CEO, currently the brand’s main focus is the Roadster platform – referring to models like the Roadster X, X Plus, and the upcoming Roadster and Arrowhead bikes. While on the other hand, the focus on the Gig, Gig Plus, S1 Z will be “a little later”.
Even the Roadster, which is Ola’s first electric motorcycle, faced a lot of delays. It was supposed to start deliveries in March, which then got pushed to April, and then the deliveries finally started on May 21, 2025. What works in Ola Electric’s favour is the fact that the Indian electric motorcycle industry is still in its developing stages, so the brand does not really have to worry about losing out to other EV makers.
Also, delaying the deliveries of the Gig range is a good business move in our opinion. If Ola manages to keep the pricing the same by the time the deliveries commence, it will rely heavily on sheer numbers for profitability. This is where the brand cannot afford to have any bottlenecks, so it is good that Ola wants to make sure everything is right before making the plunge.
Ola Electric has also been witnessing a year-on-year drop in sales of its electric scooter range. It registered 19,709 units in total in April 2025, which is significantly less than the 33,963 units it registered in April 2024.
To improve their after sales and service experience, Ola has been expanding its retail and service network. It now has around 4,000 stores across India and the brand claims to have cut down service wait times to just over a day. As for the issues surrounding the trade certificates of some of its showrooms, Aggarwal clarified, “We are now fully in touch with all agencies, all State-level RTOs to make sure we are either complaint or have already filed for the compliant whatever we need.”
