Quick News Highlights:

- The next-gen scooters will have in-house developed batteries
- The Gen 3 electric scooter range will be launched on January 31, 2025
Ola Electric has announced the launch date of its Gen 3 S1 electric scooter range on Instagram. The updated scooter range will be launched on 31st January 2025. The Gen-3 range will feature new batteries from Ola along with some important structural changes.
Here’s what the Ola’s Gen 3 update will offer:
The latest Ola Gen 3 platform will come with an in-house developed battery pack. Ola Electric is already developing new lithium-ion cells at its Gigafactory in Tamil Nadu.
The Gen 3 platform will equip the Ola scooters (S1 Pro, S1 Air and S1 X) with updated magnetless electric motors as they will feature magnetised electrical coils instead of permanent magnets. Another significant update in this platform will be the integration of the motor, battery, and other electronic components into a single box unit, which will then be integrated into the scooter’s frame, which will act as a stressed member.
What are the benefits of the Gen 3 platform?
Ola Electric’s in-house developed battery pack, electric motor and other components will help to minimise the cost of production of the scooters. That means it will keep the prices of the Ola electric scooters for the customers as well as improve EV penetration across India.
The updated magnetless electric motor is said to provide a more powerful torque output. The manufacturing materials for the new electric motor will also be sourced domestically in India, which will also keep the costs low. Ola also plans to build sporty commuter and touring scooters in the future, based on the same platform.
