Oben Electric, a Bengaluru based electric motorcycle manufacturer, has launched the ‘Protect 8/80’ battery protection plan for its Rorr EZ model. Starting May 1, 2025, this plan is available at a price of Rs 9,999, and offers 8 years or 80,000 kilometers (whichever is earlier) of battery coverage. The plan is available for both the 3.4kWh and the 4.4kWh battery variants of the Rorr EZ – for existing as well as new customers. The Protect 8/80 plan will be available at all Oben Electric’s 36 showrooms across India.
What Is It?
Oben claims the Protect 8/80 plan covers all battery related repairs, issues, problems, replacements, and any concerns throughout the entire warranty period of 8 Years or 80,000km (whichever comes first). Notably, the warranty is also completely transferable along with the bike, in case the ownership changes. Oben also guarantees the “Rorr EZ’s top speed and acceleration will remain consistent over the warranty period”.
This is a big claim, and if the company lives up to its promise, it should go a long way in ensuring peace of mind for its owners in the long run. The harsh environmental conditions in the country along with the charge and discharge cycles generally tend to wear out the battery pack by reducing its overall capacity. Oben also claims that unlike the Lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (Li-NMC) batteries, its Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery can withstand up to 50% higher temperature and perform optimally in such conditions.
Oben Rorr EZ
The Rorr EZ is a commuter electric bike with an IDC (Indian Driving Cycle) range of 175km, accelerates from 0 to 40 kmph in 3.3 seconds, and has a top speed of 95kmph (all figures claimed). It is available starting at a price of Rs 89,999 and goes up to Rs 1,19,000 (both prices ex-showroom) for the top-spec variant. The only other alternative in the commuter electric bike segment is the Revolt RV1.
