Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour’s file size has been revealed to be 2 GB by Nintendo ahead of the launch of the company’s highly anticipated new handheld console this June. Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour is a game that seeks to introduce users to the Switch 2 in a fun and interactive way, though it’s not the beefiest experience, hence the game’s rather small file size.
Few video game console announcements were shrouded in as much mystery or excitement as the Nintendo Switch 2, which will be hitting store shelves in early June. A successor to Nintendo’s ultra-successful Switch handheld seems inevitable, which is why so much speculation and rumors have flooded the internet over the last few years. The Switch 2 was officially unveiled in April, getting its own Nintendo Direct during which new details were shared about the system. However, details about new games were also shared, including Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, a paid, interactive introduction to the system.
Per Nintendo Life, Nintendo recently revealed file sizes for multiple Switch 2 games, including Welcome Tour, which comes in at a very small 2 GB. While games used to be much smaller, it’s quite uncommon to see a game this tiny in this current era of video gaming. This isn’t surprising, though, considering that Welcome Tour is essentially an interactive museum of sorts with a few games that seek to teach new users about the Switch 2 itself. Nintendo games historically don’t take much space, though as the company welcomes more outside studios and AAA games to its ecosystem, its consoles have had to adapt, with the Switch 2 launching with 256GB of storage space.

While the game appears to be another fun and quirky launch-day title for Nintendo, Welcome Tour sparked controversy when it was revealed due to its price. To a lot of fans, Welcome Tour appeared to be nothing more than an interactive tech demo for the Switch 2, something that could have been made free. However, Nintendo priced Welcome Tour at $9.99. It’s possible that Nintendo will have a few secrets in store when Welcome Tour officially drops, but it’s unlikely the game will be as big a hit as other launch-day titles like Wii Sports.
Aside from first-party titles like Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, the Switch 2 will be able to play some of today’s hottest games. Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on Switch 2, as will Borderlands 4, which will be released later this year. Companies seem eager to bring their wares to the system, with Blizzard’s head executive, Rod Fergusson, recently discussing his thoughts about bringing Diablo 4 to the Switch 2 in the future. Only time will tell how consumers respond to Switch 2, but if the original is any indicator, Nintendo will be in for another decade of dominating the handheld market.
