New boomer shooter and roguelike could be even faster than Doom The Dark Ages TechTricks365

One of the most welcome aspects of the retro FPS revival is its focus on incredibly fast player movement. Games like Ultrakill and Mullet Madjack feature characters who whip across the screen like fastballs while throwback projects like Doom The Dark Ages, Doom Eternal, or Echo Point Nova add to their sense of speed with additional, parkour-inspired movements. The recently announced Gunstoppable is another game in this vein that, somehow, looks to amp up the pace, acrobatics, and freneticism of the throwback shooter even further.

Part FPS, part roguelike game, Gunstoppable casts players as a Robocop-style cyber soldier who’s out to save his sister in a dystopian city engulfed by a seemingly eternal war. It’s presented through a grainy, colorful art style that frames the speed focused action of hectic gunfights fought with combinations of dual wielded weapons, which range from katanas and crossbows to rocket launchers and pistols.

The big hook is that the player’s speed increases as they sprint across battlefields, wallrunning, grinding on rails, and swinging from a grapplehook. They can also pause and unpause time, modify their weapons with a variety of attachments, and use ‘augments’ to customize their character. It’s a run-based game, with multiple deaths expected, but upgrades persist across every attempt at reaching the conclusion, too.

Gunstoppable doesn’t have a launch date announced just yet, but you can wishlist it or find more details on Steam right here.
