‘Muslim commissioner’: Hours after rap from Nadda, Nishikant targets ex-CEC for criticism of waqf law TechTricks365

New Delhi: Within hours of getting a rap from BJP president J.P. Nadda, who declared that the party rejects his statements on the Supreme Court and Chief Justice of India, party MP Nishikant Dubey launched a scathing attack on former chief election commissioner (CEC) S.Y. Quraishi, branding him a “Muslim commissioner, not an election commissioner” over his criticism of the Waqf (Amendment) Act.

A four-time Lok Sabha MP, Dubey was responding to an X post by Quraishi in which he said the new law was “undoubtedly a blatantly sinister/evil plan of the government to grab Muslim lands”.

“You were not an election commissioner, you were a Muslim commissioner. The maximum number of Bangladeshi infiltrators were made voters in Jharkhand’s Santhalpargana during your tenure,” the BJP leader alleged.

“Prophet Muhammad’s Islam came to India in 712, before that this land belonged to Hindus or tribals, Jains or Buddhists associated with that faith. My village Vikramshila was burnt by Bakhtiar Khilji in 1189. Vikramshila University gave the world its first vice-chancellor in the form of Atish Dipankar. Unite this country, read history, Pakistan was created by dividing it, will there be no Partition now?”

In his post, Quraishi wrote that he was sure the Supreme Court would call out the new waqf law, adding that “misinformation by the mischievous propaganda machine has done its job well”.

This comes a day after Dubey sparked a massive controversy when he said Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna was responsible for “all the civil wars happening in the country”, in an interview to ANI

Asked about his X post saying Parliament should be shut down if the Supreme Court is to make the laws, he said: “How can you give direction to the appointing authority? The President appoints the Chief Justice of India. The Parliament makes the law of this country. You will dictate that Parliament?…How did you make a new law? In which law is it written that the President has to take a decision within three months? This means that you want to take this country towards anarchy. When the Parliament sits, there will be a detailed discussion on this…”

His remarks created a flutter, with Nadda posting on X that the BJP has nothing to do with Dubey’s statements, nor does it agree with or support them.

This is not the first time Dubey has courted controversy. One of the BJP’s most outspoken leaders, in March, he made a push for National Register of Citizens (NRC) to drive out illegal Bangladeshi immigrants claiming that the population of tribals in Jharkhand has dropped to 28 percent from 45 percent earlier due to “Islamisation” of the state.

The Godda MP has previously attacked Rahul Gandhi saying one “should not ask about the caste of a hermit”. He once also shared a video clip of himself on his personal Facebook page with the song Azeem-o-Shaan Shehenshaah (majestic and noble emperor) playing in the background.

In September last year, he had raised concerns over the staggering number of feedback submissions (nearly 1.25 crore) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, and had called for a home ministry probe into the possible role of Pakistan’s ISI and China.
