Developer and publisher TaleWorlds has announced that its upcoming Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord expansion War Sails has been delayed, so it will no longer be launching in June.
In a post on Steam, TaleWorlds says that it took a “hard look at where things stand” with regards to War Sails, and that doing so made it “clear” the expansion “won’t be ready by the originally planned release date of June 17th”.
As such, it’s being pushed back to “early fall 2025”, so you can probably expect War Sails to arrive somewhere around September or October. No more specific release date than that has been given, unfortunately.
TaleWorlds says it “came to this decision after a lot of thought (and a few long meetings)”, with the delay being put into effect in order to give the studio “more time to reach the level of quality [players] rightfully expect”.
The developer says it intends to use the extra time to “apply additional polish, and continue making progress on the improvements to the base game that are already in motion”. A new release date will be revealed “in the upcoming weeks”.
If you’re not familiar with War Sails, it’s an “epic single-player expansion” for Bannerlord that will, as the name suggests, be based largely around naval warfare.
As well as introducing ship battles to Bannerlord, the expansion will also give you the chance to explore the Northern Kingdom, a land of “jagged peaks, vast taigas, and freezing fjords” in which the Viking-like Nord people live.
TaleWorlds promises a “unique and immersive naval warfare system” inspired by “accounts of actual medieval sea battles”, complete with “realistic wind and water physics” for more true-to-life ship-to-ship combat.
War Sails will also add new ship production systems, new trade goods, and new customization options for your character, so it promises to be a full and hearty expansion to Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord.
