It’s set to be a truly bumper year for Take-Two (if GTA 6 sticks to its current release window, that is), and Mafia The Old Country is one major name on its stacked slate. There’s been a long old wait for a new Mafia game, and with this entry taking us to an authentically recreated Sicily to explore the origins of the mob, excitement is high. While previously given a broad summer 2025 window, a Steam blog post appears to have revealed the exact date it’ll drop.
After several months of Mafia The Old Country silence, 2K and developer Hangar 13 have today confirmed that its upcoming open-world game will make an appearance at PAX East in a few weeks time with a dedicated panel. During the panel, we’ll get our first glimpse at gameplay with a new trailer, learn a lot more details about it, get an “exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the development process,” and get to tune into a developer Q&A. As well as all of this, confirmation of the Mafia The Old Country release date is widely expected.
Well, it appears that someone’s jumped the gun. While there’s no mention of a release date in any English-language posts, the Steam article announcing the PAX East news in other languages does.
For instance, in the LATAM version of the post -which was spotted by Insider Gaming and has been seen and translated from Spanish to English by PCGamesN – it states that “Mafia: The Old Country is available August 8, 2025.” It also says that pre-orders are now live, which is of course incorrect. It seems that this important information, due to be revealed during the PAX East panel, has been mistakenly left in.
While it’s a shame to see such an exciting bit of news get prematurely announced, there’s at least still plenty to look forward to for the actual panel. I can’t wait to see Hangar 13’s depiction of early 1900s Sicily, which will also feature a full dub in Sicilian dialect.
So, there you have it: Mafia The Old Country looks set to launch on Friday, August 8. As mentioned, it’s part of a pretty remarkable lineup of games for 2K’s parent company Take-Two. Having already pushed PGA Tour 2K25 and Civilization 7 out the door this year, it’s got the new Mafia, the GTA 6 release date, Borderlands 4, and a new NBA 2K game all arriving before the end of the year.
