On the latest episode of the HomeKit Insider Podcast, your host breaks down the latest Matter development on long-range devices, Arlo adds more HomeKit support, and we round up the best Find My devices.
Chipolo has announced its latest Find My-enabled tracker with the colorful Chipolo Pop. It comes in six different colors, has a built-in keychain hole, and has a replaceable CR2032 battery.
Unlike its predecessor, the new model works with both Apple Find My and Google Find My Device. They start at $29 for one, or four for $89.
Smart security company Arlo has announced that Apple Home is now compatible with its entire line of second-gen Essentials cameras. The Arlo Essentials line includes a doorbell, various outdoor cameras, and an indoor camera.
With Apple Home support, the cameras will show in the Home app, can be controlled with Siri, can get notifications, can show on the Apple TV, and more. They unfortunately don’t include HomeKit Secure Video support, however.
Nanoleaf announced a new light last week, perfect for gamers. The Nanoleaf Pegboard Light is reversible, with square pegs on one side and a solid light on the other.
It plugs into your computer’s USB-C port for power, but it can also act as a USB hub. It slots into a wired base with three USB-C ports and one USB-A port.
While it’s a unique light, the downside is that it must be fully controlled from the Nanoleaf Mac or PC app. There is no Apple Home or mobile app support though it can cycle through 10 different colors with the button on the base.
The episode then turns to Matter and some possible new capabilities. Leaks show a new Philips door lock, an upcoming presence sensor, and work on long-range wireless devices.
We wrap the episode by getting into our favorite Find My devices. We test out multiple devices including water bottles, coffee tumblers, chargers, and more.
