Apple has launched a major update to its audio production app Logic Pro for both iPad and Mac, including improvements and a new Flashback Capture feature for recovering and organizing jams.
On the two-year anniversary of bringing Logic Pro to the iPad for the first time, and the one-year anniversary of adding stem splitting, Apple has released its new version of the pro recording app. The new version includes an improvement to that stem splitting feature, letting musicians and producers make finer adjustments as they separate out instruments and vocals from previous recordings.
As well as the existing Vocals, Drums, and Other stems that Logic Pro could separate, the updated version adds two more. The Enhanced Stem Splitter can now separate out guitar and piano parts from a track.
Apple has also added a feature it calls Flashback Capture, which it claims “allows artists to recover unforgettable performances, even if they forgot to hit record.” Logic Pro must be in active play mode for this to work, which means recording must be enabled on a track, even if the record button has not yet been clicked or taped.

Logic Pro also has three new sound packs, including one called Dancefloor Rush, that Apple says is fresh and energetic. There’s also Magnetic Imperfections, and a sound pack by guitarist Tosin Abasi.
The new sound packs, plus the improved stem splitting, and Flashback Capture, are all available on both the Mac and the iPad. For the iPad alone, Apple has integrated “Learn MIDI,” which allows Logic Pro for iPadOS to be controlled using connected MIDI hardware.
For the Mac, Apple has added project organization options, including how tracks can now be searched and selected by name. It’s intended to be most of use with very large Logic Pro projects.
Apple has also added Apple Intelligence’s Writing Tools in Logic Pro’s Notepad feature.
The newly updated Logic Pro for Mac costs $199.00. Logic Pro for the iPad is a subscription app that costs $4.99 per month, or $49 per year, with a month’s free trial.
