The KYT Striker is an affordable Sport-touring helmet, priced at Rs 5,950.
The KYT Striker is a budget-friendly, full-face helmet and the entry-level model from KYT. It is branded as a sport-touring helmet and priced at Rs 5,950. In this review, we find out if it lives up to the expectations of everyday riders.
Design & Build Quality
The KYT Striker has sporty looks with its sharp design and large rear spoiler. The shell is made from ADT-Advanced Thermoplastic, and the overall fit and finish is commendable for its price. The ventilation system includes six air intakes at the front and two air extractors under the spoiler. There are a lot of colour options available and for this review, we have the AF37 Livery (Matt Black & Red) which catches a lot of attention on the streets.
Comfort & Fit
The Striker has an oval fit, making it suitable for a variety of riders. The liners inside feel comfortable but the fit is not as tight as I would have liked. The cheek pads feel slightly firm at first and require a break-in period. It would be advisable to go to a store and try on different sizes to get the perfect fit.
Visor & Visibility
The helmet comes with a plain visor as standard but riders can choose to purchase one of the tinted options. We do think that this blue tinted visor compliments the matt colour scheme really well. It comes Pinlock-ready but the insert is sold separately. The visor mechanism will take some getting used to as you might have to be a little rough with it to slot into place. The visibility through the visor is pretty good, offering a wide field of view, even when tucked down on sportier bikes.
Safety & Certifications
The Striker unfortunately only gets ISI certification but makes use of a double-D ring system for a secure fit. We suggest that riders only use this for city riding. For the highway or track riding, the more premium TT-Revo or NZ Race helmets would be better options as they have a better safety certifications.
Riding Experience
While it does come under the sport touring catalogue of KYT, it is a helmet that performs well only for everyday city riding. Riders can expect wind noise at higher speeds, especially while riding naked bikes. The aerodynamic design works well but after a certain speed, the helmet starts to feel like it is getting pulled back.
The ventilation is decent for the most part but like any helmet, it might feel a bit warm in stop-and-go traffic. With a weight of 1500 ± 50 grams, it is not very heavy and does not cause any neck pain. Only if you have used a carbon helmet in the past will you find this slightly on the heavier side.
Verdict: Should You Buy It?
The KYT Striker is a good value for money for riders looking for a stylish helmet within a budget. While it may not have the premium features and certifications of higher-end helmets, it is ideal for commuters in city limits. Riders who want to tour on the highway should spend a little more and go for the TT-Revo or R2R Pro and riders who are going to visit the track a lot will have to increase their budget and go for the NZ-Race.
