KTM is all set to launch the much anticipated 390 Enduro R in India soon. It is the most dedicated off-road motorcycle made by the brand in India. After making its global debut at EICMA 2024 in November, and being showcased at India Bike Week (IBW) 2024, KTM India officially teased the bike on its social media platforms, hinting at a launch around the corner. The bike is expected to hit Indian roads in the coming weeks, possibly by mid-April 2025. Bookings have been open since December 2024, for a fully refundable token amount of Rs 1,999.
Design
Staying true to its Enduro DNA, the KTM 390 Enduro R has a minimalistic design with fewer body panels for lower weight and also to keep costs in check when replacing parts in case of a fall. It is a more hardcore, off-road oriented machine as compared to the 390 Adventure. The Adventure primarily caters to long distance touring, but it also has off-road capabilities. While the 390 Enduro R is built primarily for off-road riding and trails.
Engine
The Enduro R is powered by a 398cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, four-stroke, DOHC engine that produces 45PS, 39Nm, and is mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. This motor is also shared with the third-gen KTM 390 Duke, the new 390 Adventure and Adventure X.
Underpinnings
The 390 Enduro gets a trellis frame, and fully adjustable WP Apex suspension with 230mm of wheel travel at both ends. The inverted fork has rebound and compression adjustability, while the monoshock gets adjustment for pre-load and rebound. It comes with a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel, both tubeless wire-spoke and fitted with off-road tyres – the front is a 90-section, while the rear is a 140-section. Braking is done by a 285mm front and a 240mm rear disc. It has a high 890mm seat height and 272mm of ground clearance. The weight is 159kg without fuel, and it comes with a 9-litre fuel tank – smaller than the 15-litre on the 390 Duke.
Pricing And Rivals
KTM is likely to price the bike around the Rs 3.30 lakh (ex-showroom) mark. Notably, the bike does not really have a direct rival in its segment, but at the same price – you have the much less powerful Kawasaki KLX230 to consider.
Features
The bike features LED lighting all around, and a 4.2-inch TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, incoming call alerts, turn-by-turn navigation, music controls, and KTM app integration. It also comes with adjustable brake and clutch levers, two ride modes: Street and Offroad, and a dedicated ABS switch – allowing riders to deactivate ABS in ‘offroad mode’ when tackling challenging terrains.
BikeDekho Says
If our expected price is right, then it will be significantly less expensive than the 390 Adventure, while still being more off-road capable. It may not appeal to everyone but will be an excellent value for money choice for those who are looking to improve their off-roading skills. Even though it’s not designed for the highway, it will certainly have better grunt than the Hero XPulse 210. That said, the small 9-litre fuel tank will force you to refuel more often.
