KTM 125 Line-up To Be Replaced By New 160cc Bikes In India. 125 Duke With 160 Duke And RC 125 With RC 160. 160cc Engine Derived From 200 Duke And RC 200 | BikeDekho TechTricks365

The Yamaha R15 and the MT-15 could finally be getting a direct competitor

Quick News Highlights:

  • KTM 160cc engine under development

  • Will replace the existing 125cc range of bikes

  • The 160 Duke could be launched by mid-2025

KTM India could be revamping its entry level bike range in India, by discontinuing the 125 Duke and RC 125 and replacing them with a more powerful 160 Duke and RC 160. These new models are expected to directly compete with Yamaha’s popular 155cc motorcycle line-up, which includes the R15 V4 and the MT-15 V2.

Pricing And Launch Timeline

Given that the 125 Duke and RC 125 were already priced at Rs 1.81 lakh and Rs 1.92 lakh respectively, it is unlikely that the new 160cc models will be priced lower than the Yamahas. Currently, the R15 V4 is priced between RS 1.83 lakh and Rs 2.1 lakh, while the MT-15 V2 ranges from Rs 1.69 lakh to Rs 1.74 lakh. The launch of the 160 Duke is expected to take place by mid-2025, possibly just before the festive season. The RC 160 could be launched by early 2026.

More Power

The new 160cc engine is expected to be a downsized version of the existing 200cc motor powering the 200 Duke and the RC 200. Reports indicate that the engine might produce between 18 to 20PS. It is a significant jump from the outgoing 125cc models, which made 14.5PS.

Why The Change?

The decision to phase out the 125cc models comes as KTM looks to strengthen its position in the Indian market. The 125 range has struggled with sales due to their high pricing compared to its competitors like the TVS Raider and the Xtreme 125R. Reports suggest that KTM’s 160cc motorcycles will be designed specifically for the Indian market.

Features

In terms of features, KTM is likely to offer similar ones to the 200cc bikes. So it might get dual-channel ABS, a TFT instrument console, smartphone Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, LED lighting all around, and switchable rear ABS.

What Else To Expect?

The new 160 platform could be based on the 200, featuring the same trellis frame, 43mm inverted fork, and a monoshock. The bikes are expected to maintain KTM’s signature orange colour scheme and attention grabbing design.

BikeDekho Says

While reports suggest that the 160cc platform is already in the works, there has been no official confirmation from KTM or Bajaj Auto. The introduction of the 160 Duke and RC 160 could be a game changer in the 150-160cc segment, offering an alternative to Yamaha’s best selling models. With better performance, aggressive styling, and more features, KTM aims to make a strong debut in this category. If the pricing strategy is executed well, these new bikes could help KTM gain a competitive edge in India’s entry level performance motorcycle market.
