While Konami might not be as prolific at releasing games as they were in years (decades?) past, that seems to have changed a bit, and it looks like it’s paying off.
On the last day of January, Konami released its latest financial results for the first nine months of the fiscal year ending March 2025. The company’s Digital Entertainment sector saw a huge increase in both sales and operating profit.
Per Japanese publication GameBiz (via Automaton), the report mentions that thanks to profitable game releases spearheaded by the Silent Hill 2 remake, Konami managed to achieve record-breaking profits in the third quarter (October to December 2024).
The Silent Hill 2 remake, developed by Bloober Team, saw the horror remake hit one million units solid after it launched. Just this week, the publisher announced that over two million units have been shipped worldwide (physical and digital). Further contributing to Konami’s stellar quarter are the publisher’s sports games, such as Professional Baseball Spirits 2024-2025 and the free-to-play game eFootball.
Net sales for Konami’s gaming sector during the nine-month period reached 228,882 million yen (up 32% year-on-year) or around $1,474,707 million in USD while operating profit reached 80,817 million yen (up 44.6% year-on-year) or around $520,711.
The consolidated financial results for Konami for the first nine months (April to December 2024) of the fiscal year ending March 2025 is as follows:
Net Sales: 310.829 billion yen (up 22.8% year-on-year)
Business profit: 817.143 billion yen (up 38.7% year-on-year)
Operating profit 86.7 billion yen (up 45.5% year-on-year)
Net profit 63.110 billion yen (up 41.8% year-on-year)
Konami has a few noteworthy games set for release soon. The Suikoden I & II HD Remaster is scheduled for release on March 6, 2025. The highly-anticipated Metal Gear Solid Delta is expected to be released this year, though no release date has been set yet. New Silent Hill games are also in development, though not much information is known about them.
The Silent Hill 2 remake, released in October 2024, wasn’t just a commercial success that rode the nostalgia train.
