Apple’s satellite messaging and location-sharing tools are now live in Mexico, keeping iPhone users connected even off the grid.
On Wednesday, Apple rolled out its iPhone satellite features to users in Mexico. This includes Satellite Messages and Find via satellite.
These features allow users to stay in touch with friends and family when there is no Wi-Fi or cellular connection. To use satellite features, a user will need an iPhone 14 or later with iOS 18.4 or later installed.
Satellite Messages will automatically display a notification to prompt users to connect to the nearest satellite from the Lock screen or within the Messages app. Once connected, users can send and receive text messages, as well as emojis and Tapbacks from iMessage and SMS.
The Find app enables users to share their location with loved ones even when they are out of cellular range by connecting to the nearest satellite. This feature is particularly beneficial for those who spend considerable time in remote areas, such as during hiking or camping trips.
Messages via Satellite was first announced at WWDC 2024. It later rolled out to users with iPhone 14 or newer as part of iOS 18.
