IndiGo pilots and cabin crew will receive a bonus equal to 5 per cent of their annual salary with the airline reporting its highest-ever fourth quarter profit of ₹3,067 crore for January-March period.
“In appreciation for the work done and and the collective efforts to bring the company literally to new heights, we have decided that the crew bonus will be disbursed at its maximum that is 5 per cent of your salary for FY 24-25,’‘ said the airline’s group chief human resources officer, Sukhjit Pasricha, in a email to staff.
Last year, too, the airline had given 5 per cent bonus to pilots and crew. Other employees too were given a bonus equal to one-and-a-half months of their salary. For FY 25 non-flying staff will receive full bonus as per their contracts, but no separate ex-gratia has been announced.
“We have collectively worked hard to recover from Covid, and at the same time started to build on our aspiration to become a global aviation giant by 2030…Last year (FY24) we made a profit and returned to net worth positive company. FY25 results are an assurance to all of us that we continue to be on our growth path by executing our strategy well,” said Pasricha.
Strong profit
IndiGo’s fourth quarter profit rose 62 per cent year-on-year to ₹3,067 crore, on the back of fleet addition, strong passenger demand and low fuel costs. The airline’s occupancy and yields saw year on year growth with demand boost coming from Maha Kumbh Mela. Reduction in number of grounded aircraft has helped airline lower expenses, and the airline will continue to assess the requirements for high-cost wet lease options based on demand.
On a full year basis IndiGo posted ₹7,258 crore net profit in FY25. The profit, however, was lower by 11.2 per cent due to foreign exchange impact. “This has been one of our best performances for the fourth quarter as we achieved many milestones including the highest number of customers served during any quarter (31.9 million) and the strongest profit for the fourth quarter in any year since our inception,” the airline’s chief executive officer Pieter Elbers said in a post result conference call.
