If you’ve finished Doom The Dark Ages, one beloved, fast-paced Steam shooter has just hit 1.0 TechTricks365

For as compelling as more realistic, tactics-heavy shooters can be, there’s always going to be room for FPS games that lean into absurdity in order to offer the most propulsive action possible. The latter approach might not provide the sense of mortal danger as something like Arma 3 or Ready or Not, but sprinting across battlefields at superhuman speeds to blast apart monstrous enemies in throwback shooters like Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, Dusk, Ultrakill, or Prodeus, is also a pretty good time. That’s part of the reason it’s worth paying attention to Project Warlock 2, a Quake and Hexen influenced project that’s just hit 1.0 on Steam.

Project Warlock 2 is a retro FPS game that looks beyond just staples like Doom and Quake for inspiration, incorporating magic powers of the kind featured in Heretic and Hexen. It’s also been garnering a warm reception over the time it’s spent in Early Access, currently holding a 77% or Mostly Positive overall user rating, with recent reviews increasing to 86% or Very Positive.

That improvement could be due in part to Project Warlock 2’s 1.0 launch. Now that the game has reached its final version, it includes all three character campaigns, 36 levels, as well as the 54 weapons, 27 spells, and more than 50 enemy types originally planned to feature in the game.

Given its striking visual style, breakneck pace, and the variety of play represented by its trio of distinct characters, Project Warlock 2 looks to be a solid follow up to its predecessor, with plenty of monster destroying for players to dig into.

Project Warlock 2 is out in 1.0 and available at a 50% discount on Steam from now until Wednesday June 11, bringing its price down to $8.49 USD / £6.74. Grab a copy right here.
