Post Trauma has been shaping up to be one of this year’s most exciting new horror games. Taking survival horror elements from the early Silent Hill games and throwing them into a surreal and disturbing world, it’s looking like a real heart-pounder and brain-bender. Now, after a couple of delays, the day has finally arrived – Post Trauma has just launched on Steam.
With a constantly shifting third-person perspective, freakish monsters, and plenty of elaborate puzzles to solve, Post Trauma wears its Silent Hill inspiration on its sleeve. Fans of Resident Evil and Dead Space should also feel at home with it. However, it sets itself apart with its art style and the abstract way in which it brings horror game scares to the underground subway network in which it’s set. Protagonist Roman, a train conductor, seems like a fairly mundane guy leading an uneventful life, but he’s quickly thrust into a world where everything around him is far from normal.
Making your way through dimly-lit subway tunnels and maintenance rooms is an eerie prospect in and of itself, but everything is accented with gross masses of organs and limbs. Nightmarish creatures could await you around each corner. Some architectural elements are distorted and not quite as they should be. This is a familiar world, but one that’s haunted and plagued by something unspeakable.
While you will find some weapons to keep you safe, constantly blasting your way through Post Trauma may not be the wisest choice. Ammo isn’t exactly plentiful, and sneaking past enemies will ensure you’re not enticing more monstrosities to your location.
As mentioned, there are some complex puzzles and mysteries to solve that’ll require plenty of exploration and brain power. It wouldn’t be an intense survival horror game without a few padlock combinations to crack and radio dials to twist now, would it?
Initially set to launch around Halloween last year, Post Trauma was pushed back to 2025 to give it some more time “to tweak the difficulty curve, as well as polish the game and fix bugs.” As its March deadline approached, it was then nudged back by a few weeks for some final finishing touches. Now though, the wait is over.
Post Trauma is out now on Steam for PC players, as well as Xbox Series X|S and PS5. To learn more about it or add it to your Steam library, check out its store page here.
