Could be launched sometime in 2025
We recently saw an upcoming electric bike being tested in Bengaluru. Judging by the images, it looks like a utilitarian commuter electric bike with good roughroading capabilities. The e-bike seems to be in the early stages of testing, and here’s everything you need to know:
Judging by what’s written on one of the test rider’s jackets, the upcoming e-bike is made by One Energy. We tried to look it up, but there doesn’t seem to be an official website. We reckon the name and other details of the brand are yet to be made public.
The bike has a rugged design with a round headlight, along with a raised beak-like fender as seen on off-road motorcycles. The e-bike gets a long single-piece seat which looks quite roomy, extending almost throughout the length of the bike. It also gets a heavy-duty luggage rack, along with massive looking foot boards.
Another aspect which stands out on the bike is how thick the frame tubing is – this is likely to support the weight of the massive-looking battery pack. So considering the size, can expect the battery pack to offer a claimed range that could be around 150km to 200km. This will help the bike compete with other petrol-powered commuter motorcycles like the Hero Splendor Plus and the Bajaj Platina 100.
The e-bike features a mid-mounted motor and a chain drive transmission setup. This will offer one major advantage, which is ease of maintenance. Small town mechanics tend to have issues when working with belt drive transmission systems as they are not easily available compared to chain drive. Plus, we have already seen other EV brands going for a chain drive transmission like Kinetic Green did with the Kinetic E-Luna.
The upcoming electric bike rolls on what appears to be a 17-inch alloy wheel setup at both ends. It also gets disc brakes at the front and rear, with CBS. What really adds to the rugged and utilitarian credentials is the usage of dual-purpose tyres which will help when riding over poorly maintained patches of roads.
Features wise, the bike gets a curved rectangular console, likely an LCD unit. It could offer essential readouts like speed, battery level, odometer and tripmeter readouts. It’s not known whether it’ll have connectivity but we reckon it won’t so as to keep the costs in check.
The e-bike seems to be in the initial stages of testing, and is unlikely to be launched anytime soon. We expect the bike to come to the market by around late 2026. It could be an electric alternative to the Hero Splendor Plus and the Bajaj Platina 100, two commuter motorcycles which are known for their rugged and utilitarian credentials. As for its expected pricing, it could cost somewhere around Rs 1.2 lakh (ex-showroom).
