While drugs being part of a Grand Theft Auto game is a given, a new rumor has surfaced stating that in GTA 6, players will be able to deal banned substances in a whole new way.
Before diving in, remember that this is a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt. However, the publication running this rumor has said that they’ve verified that the anonymous source who shared this info is still working at Rockstar, though they weren’t able to give them hard evidence to support their claims.
The rumor comes from The Marijuana Herald, which states that an anonymous Rockstar employee shared that in the game, players will have the option to “medical marijuana dispensaries across the in-game map.” If players wanted to, they can run fully legal outlets for medical patients and even take part in the illegal sale of “marijuana and other drugs through an underground market system.”
The source describes the dispensary management as featuring customizable storefronts, product pricing, and inventory control. Black market operations, meanwhile, would involve dangerous missions and interactions, though can potentially be more lucrative.
If this rumor pans out, this wouldn’t be the first time a GTA game has featured black market drug sales, as GTA Chinatown Wars, a smaller-scale game in the franchise released for the PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, and mobile devices in 2009, featured the selling of contraband drugs.
Again, I want to point out that while this rumor sounds plausible, it should still be treated as unconfirmed info. So if dont’ get angry if GTA 6 doesn’t let you live the life of a medical marijuana kingpin.
If true, I wouldn’t be surprised to see lawmakers grab their pitchforks over this and how it’s turning kids into drug dealers or something.
More info about GTA 6 should hopefully surface in the coming months leading up to the game’s highly-anticipated May 26, 2026 release date. This will be the game of the generation for most, and its appeal is so big that even the music used in its second trailer shot up by over 180,000% which is just insane.
If you saw the second trailer and thought it was too good to be true, well, let Rockstar excite you even more, as the developers confirmed that they were all taken from a base PS5 (not even a PS5 Pro).
GTA 6 and all its drug-dealing glory will be released on May 26, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, assuming we don’t see another delay.
