11 bit studios has announced Frostpunk 1886, a remake of the first title in the long-running survival strategy franchise, out in 2027 for PC. A short announcement trailer showcases the Heat Generator Tower and several people screaming as a major storm rolls in.
The storm in question is the Great Frost, which plunged the world into a never-ending Winter. It began in 1886, and while many embarked on expeditions with Towers for research, the rest of the world slowly collapsed.
Touted as “rebuilt” in Unreal Engine, 11 bit studios said it’s “no mere visual overhaul” and that players can expect a new Purpose Path and mod support (which the original game lacked). Of course, it’s staying true to the original, which means plenty of tough decisions to ensure the survival of New London.
Stay tuned for more details and updates in the coming years. In the meantime, check out Frostpunk 2, available on PC and coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S this Summer. It will receive a major content update on May 8th and its first DLC, Spectrum, this Autumn.
