Square Enix has just given us an update on the sales of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster games, revealing that they have surpassed five million copies. This is enough to boost all game sales across the entire Final Fantasy series past 200 million – a huge milestone that’s almost four decades in the making.
This accounts for sales of all the games worldwide, with the success of the Pixel Remaster helping the series reach this new high. Of course, the performances of recent instalments like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy 16 would have helped too, with the series having many releases to draw upon.
“The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series has sold over 5 million copies worldwide, and the Final Fantasy series has now sold over 200 million copies across the globe,” Square Enix has just announced. “Wherever you joined us on our adventures, thank you.
The Pixel Remaster series started in 2021. These are rereleases of the original six mainline games, making them available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and mobile. It looks like fans have been interested in exploring these older, often overlooked titles, with the series as a whole surpassing five million on its own.
While this is a huge figure for the series to reach, it comes after some of the latest big entries have seemingly struggled to shift the numbers that Square Enix was expecting. Both Final Fantasy 16’s and Rebirth’s sales fell under what was predicted, prompting the studio to consider more multiplatform releases going forward. With this in mind, we might start to see these larger releases come to rival console platforms, rather than just getting their PC ports further down the line, but otherwise staying on PlayStation. Right now, we know that Remake Part 3 won’t be a PS6 exclusive, at the very least.
