I love a themed gaming PC build, because nailing the brief can be tricky, but when it’s done right, it can often look incredible. Thankfully, this The Last of Us build manages to hit the spot, turning an otherwise standard Hyte Y70 Touch PC case into a design that immediately invokes all of the apocalyptic energy of the iconic game series, with powerful specs underpinning it, too.

This gaming PC build is a showstopper, but it hasn’t reinvented the wheel with DIY components. The Hyte Y70 Touch case that it uses is a fantastic choice for this build, especially as its our best PC case recommendation, with its 4K touchscreen utilized perfectly to showcase some familiar scenery from one of the games. Meanwhile, the best parts from AMD and Nvidia leave plenty of juice for high-end gameplay.

Let’s look at why this build is such a success first. Builder Darren Gatewood of Grimm’s Workshop shared the gaming PC in a post on builds.gg, and the first thing you’ll notice is the striking imagery at play here. The case, along with many of the components, has seen a subtle paint job that gives off the impression of abandonment — dust, without the dirt.

Everything from the case itself to the AIO and the fans have had a paint job, hiding lots of the more obvious branding to keep the design true to its spec. A vinyl decal, showing the window of an abandoned building, has been applied to the front panel, with LED backlighting to make it glow.

While the build itself looks incredible, it’s not short on power, either. An AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is the centerpiece here, giving this build serious gaming potential, given that the 7800X3D was (until very recently) our best gaming CPU recommendation. Meanwhile, an MSI-branded Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti is installed – the Ventus 3X OC model – leaving plenty of power to run either of the Last of Us Remastered games at 4K.

This build is a successfully subtle one. It hasn’t relied on extensive DIY-ing, but with a careful paintjob and some inspired design choices, including successfully using the Hyte case’s LED screen, this is one themed gaming PC that really meets its brief. If you’re a fan of The Last of Us series, you’re going to want to build a PC like this one – if you can nail down the paint job, that is.

Thankfully, that part is optional. You can check out our how to build a gaming PC guide to talk you through building a more modest build, from picking parts to installing Windows.
