Elden Ring Nightreign isn’t here yet, but a giant soulslike with a 40-hour story just landed on Steam TechTricks365

In the near future, massive new RPG games like Elden Ring Nightreign, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Lost Soul Aside are set to come out and demand plenty of their players’ free time. Each one of these is still a little ways out, though, which makes now the ideal moment for the launch of Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree, another sprawling action RPG that launched yesterday on Steam to fairly positive user reviews.

Set in a grim fantasy world, Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree is a soulslike game that, per its Steam description, promises more than 40 hours of play. It takes place in an apocalyptic land where the player, as one of six classes of Inquisitor, hunts down monsters spilling into their world and running rampant.

Though Mandragora features a 2D perspective, it’s heavily inspired by 3D games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring in its dark narrative and action design. The Inquisitor can be customized to fight with magic or melee weapons and the wide array of creatures they’re pitted against will force them to master an unforgiving combat system. Its world layout is also similar to From’s catalog, with connected environments that hide important items, characters, and secrets. Unlike a From game, though, Mandragora provides difficulty options.

The game’s reception so far has been pretty warm. On Steam, Mandragora currently holds a ‘Mostly Positive’ user rating based on players active since it launched yesterday.
