Publisher Electronic Arts is preparing for worse than intended fiscal results for the past year.
According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, EA said that third-quarter bookings for last year fell to $2.22 billion, down from a forecast of $2.4 billion to $2.55 billion. Their overall projected bookings for the 2025 fiscal year were also reduced to $7 billion between $7.15 billion, down from $7.5 billion to $7.8 billion.
One key cause is the less-than-stellar sales results for the highly anticipated BioWare RPG Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The game missed company projections by roughly 50%, reaching just 1.5 million copies last quarter.
Another key title, EA Sports FC 2025, also sold fewer copies than anticipated, leading to revised fiscal projections.
“We remain confident in our long-term strategy and expect a return to growth in FY26, as we execute against our pipeline,” EA Chief Executive Officer Andrew Wilson said in a statement.
While EA can look to the success of EA Sports College Football’s return as a sign of optimism for the future, they were banking on a return to form for famed developer BioWare with Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Despite its positive reception on OpenCritic, Veilguard has failed to resonate with fans. For a few months, many have been hypothesizing about the game’s poor sales figures.
During the October and November sales round-ups, the game lagged behind other juggernauts from the past quarter. Dragon Age failed to make a dent in Call of Duty’s sales figures and even lost out to EA games like Madden and College Football in November.
Another key takeaway is that EA says the game “reached” 1.5 million players, not sold or even shipped copies. This could indicate that the game was played by that many people, thanks to its inclusion in services such as EA Play Pro.
BioWare is currently developing the next entry in the Mass Effect series.
