Death Stranding 2 To Feature Quality And Performance Modes TechTricks365

Those who plan to play Death Stranding 2: On the Beach when it releases late this year can choose what they prioritize more in a game: its visual fidelity or how smoothly it plays.

While Kojima Productions hasn’t made any official announcement, multiple previews have surfaced this past week that confirms Death Stranding 2’s graphical modes.

The Game Awards producer Geoff Keighley confirmed this over on X (formerly Twitter), by stating that the game he played runs at 60 frames-per-second (fps) for Performance Mode, and 30fps in Quality Mode. Keighley preferred playing the game in Performance, which I assume most gamers will opt for as well.

The newly resurrected Game Informer confirmed this as well in their hands-on preview where it mentions Performance Mode is also the recommended setting gven the slight hit in visuals isn’t enough to sacrifice that buttery-smooth 60fps gameplay. From the preview: “As sharp as the fidelity-focused Quality Mode looks, I highly recommend switching to Performance Mode. The game looks and plays fantastically when running at a smooth 60 frames per second, and it’s worth taking the relatively small graphical hit, as frequent grass pop-in is the only major drawback I’ve noticed. Everything still looks gorgeous either way, and it’s worth noting I played the game on a base PS5”

Note that both modes will be available for the base PS5, which means the PS5 Pro version will have more added enhancements.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach’s release date is locked for June 26 on PS5, and it doesn’t seem to be getting delayed. With Sony pushing for Ghost of Yotei as its big holiday 2025 release, Death Stranding 2’s launch date seems firmly planted. Unless, of course, Kojma pushes the game out into 2026, which is unlikely given Grand Theft Auto 6 is due in May 2026, and it’s a game that Kojima admits affects game release dates.

Speaking of Kojma and the franchise, the game director hasn’t shut the door in Death Stranding 3, but don’t expect him to helm it, as it seems he’ll be passing that off to someone else to focus on other projects.
