Colossal action MMO Warframe is being overhauled to help new players get started TechTricks365

Warframe, like any long-running MMO or live service game, is overwhelming. What started as a third-person action game where you take control of bio-mechanical suits has grown into something much, much bigger. Digital Extremes has spent the last 12 years throwing everything but the kitchen sink into Warframe, with fishing, dating, hoverboards, and just about anything else you can imagine already in the game. That’s why, throughout 2025, the team is going to make Warframe much easier to understand for new players.

At Pax East 2025, Digital Extremes held Warframe devstream 188. During the show the team talked about the game’s next narrative chapter, Isleweaver, alongside the Yareli Prime update later this month. There are a lot of releases coming to the multiplayer game this year, but sprinkled throughout each are an array of changes that’ll make it easier for new players to get involved.

Starting with the Yareli Prime update on Wednesday May 21, you can expect some groundbreaking alterations to how both Warframes and their weapons are presented to you. Digital Extremes is adding new categories to the Arsenal, meaning you can now easily understand how something plays. Warframes will be labelled as Damage, Crowd Control, Support, Survival, or Stealth, giving you a simple starting point. Weapons have also been broken up into categories, meaning primary, secondary, and melee tools will now come with straightforward ways of identifying them. So if you want to pick up a shotgun, submachine gun, or light blade, you can with ease.

With over 50 Warframes and hundreds of weapons in the game, these systems serve as a way to make navigation much easier for you, right from the jump. Digital Extremes’ streamlining doesn’t end there, however, as the studio is also massively improving the gameplay difficulty and variety with new players in mind. This means you’ll have a more diverse range of combat encounters right from the start.

Some enemies like the Bailiffs are being added to Grineer missions as a mini-boss unit, while Ballistas have been spruced up with lock-on abilities and a VFX overhaul to make them more engaging. Eviscerators, on the other hand, have a new area-denial mechanic to keep you on your toes.

Then, looking ahead to Isleweaver in June, Digital Extremes has even more planned. This starts with Junctions, which are solo missions you can complete to learn Warframe’s fundamentals and progress through the Star Chart to access what the game has to offer. From the Isleweaver update onwards, selecting a Junction will show you all of its tasks and rewards, giving you more info.

Previously, you’d need to defeat a Junction’s Specter to receive all the rewards, but that’s also going to change. You’ll be able to complete an individual Junction Task and get a specific payout, alongside the extras for defeating a Specter. This means you can spread out the benefits you get from Junctions, making them more approachable.

Warframe new players

Digital Extremes is also overhauling Vor in the Isleweaver update, your first introduction to Warframe bosses. The team wants his fight to be more dynamic but not too punishing, with new and reworked mechanics easing you into how these extra-tough opponents work.

There are plenty more changes, too, with lots of quality-of-life improvements set for both the Yareli Prime and Isleweaver updates. Digital Extremes has put it all together in this Reddit thread.

Whether you’re a new player or returning after an extended break, make sure you check out all the Warframe codes and Warframe Twitch drops for some free goodies.
