CRN breaks down exact Q1 2025 market share results for the top five cloud computing companies in the world: AWS, Alibaba, Google, Oracle and Microsoft.
Amazon Web Services is still No. 1 in terms of global cloud market share but Microsoft and Google Cloud are quickly gaining ground, according to new cloud market share data.
“All of the leading cloud providers are posting some impressive numbers,” said John Dinsdale, a chief analyst at Synergy Research Group, in a statement. “Amazon maintains a strong lead in the market, though Microsoft and Google once again had higher percentage growth numbers.”
Quarter over quarter, Microsoft gained one percentage point in market share, while AWS lost one percentage point. Google Cloud continues to slowly increase its global cloud market share year over year.

Combined, AWS, Microsoft and Google Cloud achieved 63 percent share of total enterprise spending on cloud infrastructure services during the first quarter of 2025.

Worldwide Cloud Services Market Reaches $94 Billion
Enterprise spending on cloud infrastructure services reached $94 billion worldwide during the first quarter of 2025, according to Synergy Research Group data.
This represents a 23 percent, or $17.5 billion, spending increase compared with Q1 2024. Public Infrastructure as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform as-a-Service (PaaS) services account for the bulk of the market.
“While the growth is broad based across geographies and services, clearly AI is making a big difference,” said Dinsdale. “We saw growth of [between] 140 percent to 160 percent in GenAI-specific services, with AI also contributing to service enhancements and added growth across the broader portfolio. The capex numbers are huge, but so are the incremental revenues.”

Oracle ranks No. 5 in the global cloud infrastructure services market by winning 3 percent share during the first quarter of 2025.
In March, the Austin, Texas-based company reported total cloud revenue of $6.2 billion for first quarter of calendar year 2025. This represented a 23 percent year-over-year cloud sales increase.
Oracle has hovered around 2 percent to 3 percent global share for the past several years.
No. 4: Alibaba

China’s largest and most dominant cloud company, Alibaba, has consistently ranked in fourth place quarter after quarter for the past several years with Q1 2025 being no different.
Alibaba achieved 4 percent global cloud market share in Q1 2025.
For the company’s most recent financial earnings report, Alibaba’s Cloud Intelligence Group generated $4.3 billion in total revenue during the fourth quarter of 2024, an increase of 13 percent year over year.
No. 3: Google Cloud

Google Cloud ranks third place in the global cloud market by winning 12 percent share during the first quarter of 2025.
The Mountain View, Calif.-based cloud and AI company has been slowly gaining share over the past few years. For example, in Q1 2023, Google Cloud’s share was 10 percent. In Q1 2022, the company’s market share was at 9 percent.
Google Cloud generated $12.3 billion in revenue during Q1 2025, representing an increase of 28 percent year over year.
No. 2: Microsoft

The world’s largest software company and second biggest cloud provider achieved 22 percent share of the global cloud market in Q1 2025, up one percentage point compared with Q4 2024.
Microsoft’s global cloud market share has fluctuated between 20 percent share and 25 percent share for the past several years.
Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft reported its Intelligent Cloud business—which includes Azure—generated $26.8 billion in revenue during the first three months of 2025, representing an increase of 21 percent compared to Q1 2024.

The world’s longtime cloud computing leader has been trending downward recently in terms of cloud market share, according to Synergy data. The Seattle-based cloud behemoth has been at the top of the cloud market share mountain since the cloud industry was formed.
AWS ranked No. 1 in market share for Q1 2025 by winning 29 percent share of the market. This is down two percentage points year over year.
In Q1 2023, AWS had 32 percent share of the market.
In Q1 2022, the company won 33 percent market share.
Looking at AWS’ Q1 2025 earnings results, the company generated a record $29.3 billion in revenue, up 17 percent year over year.

Huawei Market Share: 2 Percent
U.S.-based tech giants IBM and Salesforce alongside Chinese-based companies Huawei and Tencent, each generated approximately 2 percent global market share in Q1 2025. These four companies generated the same market share percentage in fourth-quarter 2024.
The other vendors who had a global cloud market share of 1 percent for Q4 2024 were Akamai, Baidu, China Telecom, China Unicom, CoreWeave, Databricks, Fujitsu, NTT, Snowflake, SAP and VMware.
