The Ducati DesertX family in India just got bigger as the Bologna-based manufacturer launched the DesertX Discovery. The Discovery is a more touring-focused version of the standard DesertX which sits in between the standard DesertX and the DesertX Rally in the ADV’s lineup.

What are its Price & Rivals?

The new Ducati DesertX Discovery has been launched in India with a price tag of Rs 21,78,200 (ex-showroom). This makes it Rs 3,45,000 more expensive than the standard model and Rs 1,92,600 more affordable than the top Rally variant.

The Ducati DesertX Discovery competes with the Triumph Tiger 900, BMW F 900 GS and the KTM 890 Adventure R.

What’s New?

The new Ducati DesertX Discovery features a similar adventure bike design as the other Ducati DesertX models. The bike is available in a special Thrilling Black/Ducati Red livery.  The DesertX Discovery also gets a taller windscreen to protect the rider from high-speed windblast during those long hours on the saddle.

The Adventure bike also has handguards, a reinforced bash plate, a radiator grill and an engine guard with water pump protection as standard. Additionally, it comes with a centre stand that will make it easy to park the bike on uneven surfaces and repair punctures easily. Additionally, the ADV also gets a front bullbar protector.

In terms of features, the Ducati DesertX Discovery comes with a 5-year subscription of turn-by-turn navigation, which has to be renewed after 5 years through the Ducati Link smartphone application. It also gets heated hand grips which are extremely helpful while touring in cold climate conditions. and turn-by-turn navigation (the subscription for it is valid for 5 years, post which it has to be renewed through the Ducati Link application).

What’s Unchanged?

The Ducati DesertX Discovery is powered by the same 937cc, liquid-cooled, L-twin engine as the other variants. It produces a peak output of 110PS at 9,250rpm and 92Nm at 6,500rpm, paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch and bi-directional quickshifter.

Featurewise, the DesertX Discovery gets the same 5-inch TFT instrument console as the standard variant. It has smartphone connectivity features including turn-by-turn navigation, call & SMS alerts, and music control. The bike has 6 ride modes: Touring, Sport, Wet, Urban, Enduro, and Rally. Other rider aids on the bike include a 3-level cornering ABS system, wheelie control, engine braking control, cruise control, traction control, self-cancelling indicators, a steering damper, and more.

Ducati DesertX Discovery Launched In India

The Ducati DesertX Discovery is equipped with a KYB inverted fork and a KYB monoshock, both fully adjustable. The bike gets 320mm dual disc brakes at the front and a 265mm rear disc brake, with switchable dual-channel ABS as standard. The bike is fitted with 21-inch front and 18-inch rear cross-spoked wheels with 90-section front and 150-section rear Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tubeless tyres on both ends.

The Adventure bike has a 21-litre fuel tank capacity and 210kg kerb weight. It has a standard seat height of 875mm which can be increased to 890mm and decreased to 845mm with additional accessories, which will make it slightly more accessible for the riders of shorter as well as taller heights.
