New 450cc twin-cylinder engine made in collaboration with TVS
The production version of the BMW F 450 GS has been spotted on test in India, in Karnataka. First unveiled as a concept at the 2024 EICMA show in November 2024, the camouflaged test bike comes with many elements that are in line with BMW’s typical GS motorcycles’ design. Even though the body panels are covered, it’s pretty clear that its overall proportions resemble a scaled-down version of the flagship R 1300 GS.
Engine
This new baby GS will get an all-new, 450cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin cylinder engine – with around 48PS. This engine is reportedly being co-developed and manufactured by TVS at its Hosur plant, opening the door for potential cost advantages in the Indian market. Although, it’s unclear as of now whether we will ever get a TVS bike using this motor – the possibility of that happening is still going to be a long time from now.
Underpinnings
Even with the heavy camouflage, the BMW F 450 GS can be seen with typical Adventure bike traits such as long travel suspension on both ends. The fork doesn’t seem to be adjustable from these spy shots. It also gets a raised front beak-like mudguard, and an upswept exhaust with a pipe-like extension likely to prevent the saddlebags from burning up from the exhaust heat. The panniers are likely carrying testing equipment. The 450 GS seen here is riding on what seems like a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy setup, as compared to the concept bike – which was showcased with cross-spoke wheels (21-inch front and 17-inch rear). The wheels are wrapped in block-pattern tyres that are likely to be tubeless, whereas the concept had knobbies.
Features
The F 450 GS is expected to come with a full colour TFT console with smartphone connectivity and navigation. BMW is also likely to include cornering ABS, switchable traction control, multiple riding modes, and dual-channel ABS – most probably switchable or with modes.
Launch And Price
BMW Motorrad is expected to officially unveil the production version of the F 450 GS at EICMA 2025 in Milan in November, with an India launch likely to follow in early 2026. We anticipate the pricing to be around the Rs 4.5 lakh ex-showroom mark. Upon launch, it will rival other 500-ish cc twin-cylinder adventure bikes such as the Honda NX500, the recently launched 2025 Benelli TRK 502 range, and the upcoming Aprilia Tuareg 457.
