Hybrids continue to rise up the sales charts, now accounting for more than 15 per cent of all new vehicle deliveries in Australia throughout the first quarter of 2025.
Between January and March, 47,014 hybrid vehicles were delivered in Australia, making it the third-most popular fuel type, behind petrol and diesel cars, SUVs, utes and vans.
Hybrid vehicles also experienced the greatest year-on-year sales increase by volume, with an additional 12,128 deliveries compared to the same period last year.

Toyota continued to be the dominant brand, delivering 28,204 hybrids in the first three months of 2025, accounting for almost 60 per cent of the market.
Following the brand’s decision last year to ditch petrol engines from model lines where a hybrid option was available, its hybrid models also represent just under 49 per cent of its overall deliveries.
Hyundai remains in a distant second with 6548 hybrid deliveries – a far cry from Toyota’s total, but almost half of its 14,961 hybrid sales throughout the entirety of 2024.
Far behind both brands was GWM, edging out Lexus and Kia for a podium spot.

For specific models, the RAV4 leads the way both in the overall sales race and among hybrids.
With 13,733 deliveries in the first quarter, nearly 30 per cent of all hybrids delivered in Australia this year have been RAV4s.
To put that into context, if you add the second (Corolla), third (Corolla Cross), fourth (Hyundai Tucson) and fifth (Kona) best-selling hybrid vehicles’ sales, you still don’t get as many deliveries as the RAV4.
Six of the 10 best-selling hybrids were Toyotas, while three Hyundais and one GWM rounded out the top placings.

If you see a Subaru Crosstrek, there’s a low chance it’s a hybrid
Only the Toyota C-HR, Lexus LBX, GWM Tank 500, Toyota Tundra, Lexus LM and Honda Accord can claim to have 100 per cent hybrid sales.
On the flip side, the Subaru Crosstrek, Lexus LC and Kia Sorento all had hybrid delivery penetration below 10 per cent.
