Apple’s Northbrook Court store
Apple is shutting down its Northbrook Court store on April 26, and this time, it’s not relocating — it’s leaving for good.
The company has confirmed that its Northbrook location in suburban Chicago will permanently close at 7 p.m. on April 26, 2025. While Apple often shutters stores to move to larger or more modern locations, this is one of the rare cases where it’s not being replaced.
The company thanked customers on its store page and encouraged them to visit nearby locations or shop online. The closure reflects broader changes at Northbrook Court.
The mall has struggled in recent years, losing major retailers including Macy’s, Lord & Taylor, and Lululemon. Its owner, Brookfield Property Partners, is investing $825 million in a redevelopment effort that includes adding upscale retail and an affordable housing complex.
Nearby retail alternatives
The Northbrook Apple Store originally opened on July 16, 2005, and was relocated within the mall in 2017. When the store closes it will mark exactly 20 years of service to the community.
Apple said store employees will continue in their roles, which likely means they will be offered the same positions at other Apple Store locations. The nearest alternatives include Apple Old Orchard in Skokie, Apple Deer Park, and Apple Woodfield in Schaumburg.
- Apple Old Orchard: Located at 4999 Old Orchard Center, Skokie, IL 60077.
- Apple Deer Park: Located at 20530 N. Rand Road, Deer Park, IL 60010.
- Apple Woodfield: Located at N311 Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg, IL 60173.
While Apple has not announced any plans for a replacement, the company has previously used store closures to transition into larger, flagship locations. One example is when it closed the original Tysons Corner store in Virginia and opened a new one nearby.
But in this case, there’s no sign of a new store planned for the Northbrook area.
For Apple, store closures without a replacement are uncommon. Most customers in the area will need to adjust to visiting nearby stores or shifting to online and remote support.
